Charlotte County is about to hit the gas on a long-anticipated road expansion project that’s got local residents buzzing with excitement. Starting this coming Monday, the widening of Kings Highway will transform the current two-lane stretch into a safer, four-lane thoroughfare. This project will span from Sandhill Boulevard, just north of I-75, to the DeSoto County line, addressing a growing traffic issue that’s been a concern for many.
As neighborhoods in the area continue to expand, traffic has noticeably increased, much to the chagrin of residents like Mahlon Miller, who sees this upgrade as a much-needed improvement. With a budget of $10.5 million, the project will add a median, street lighting, sidewalks, and protected turn lanes, creating a more secure environment for motorists and pedestrians alike. The completion date is set for next October, so it’s a long but rewarding journey ahead for Charlotte County.
Residents like Stephanie Downie, with over 30 years in the Deep Creek area, believe this development is essential as the region continues to grow. It looks like Kings Highway is about to take a turn for the better—let’s hope the next roadblock in life isn’t dodging traffic but rather figuring out where to grab lunch instead!
