Million-Dollar Summer: How Savor Sarasota Keeps Local Restaurants Thriving

Two weeks. That’s all it took for Savor Sarasota to inject over $1 million into the local restaurant scene and remind everyone why summer dining on the Suncoast matters.

The 21st annual Savor Sarasota wrapped up its official run from June 1 through June 14 with numbers that tell a compelling story: 25,466 meals served across 68 participating restaurants, with 18,934 dinners and 6,532 lunches ringing up $1,015,330 in combined revenue. But here’s what makes those figures actually meaningful—this started as a simple idea two decades ago. Visit Sarasota County launched the program back in 2005 as a way to keep restaurants busy during the notoriously slow summer months. Today, it’s become one of the region’s most anticipated culinary celebrations, a tradition that cuts across everything from the UTC area and downtown Sarasota all the way through Venice, Englewood, North Port, the barrier islands, and South County.

The formula is elegantly straightforward: two-course lunches for $25, three-course dinners for $45. Restaurants sweeten the deal with wine pairings, signature cocktails, and creative menu upgrades that give diners a reason to venture somewhere new—or return to a longtime favorite. Erin Duggan, President and CEO of Visit Sarasota County, nailed why this matters: “Savor Sarasota started as a smart solution for the summer slowdown, and twenty-one years later, it has become one of our community’s most exciting culinary events.” The real magic, she noted, is how chefs and restaurateurs keep raising the bar with thoughtful hospitality and creative execution.

This year brought fresh faces to the table, too. Chophouse285, the newest venture from Laurie Farlow (who’s well known in South County for Farlow’s on the Water), exceeded expectations with new customers discovering the restaurant for the first time. Owner Laurie Farlow called the buzz “amazing” and credited Savor Sarasota with giving Chophouse285 a proper launching pad heading into summer. Meanwhile, Marcel DW’s owner and executive chef Jeremy Duclut returned for his third consecutive year and observed that “each year gets better.” For him, the event creates space for something increasingly rare in dining culture: the chance to actually slow down and linger over a meal.

What separates Savor Sarasota from a simple discount promotion is this—it celebrates the talent of the Suncoast’s culinary community across every conceivable cuisine. Seafood and steakhouses sit alongside Italian, French, Mediterranean, Asian, Latin, and contemporary American kitchens. Diners get to explore breadth. Restaurants get new customers in the door. The community gets reminded why local dining matters.

The official event may have ended June 14, but the momentum didn’t stop there. Fifty-five restaurants extended their Savor Sarasota menus through the end of the month and beyond, so if you missed the initial window, there’s still time to take advantage.
