A partial roof collapse at a Bradenton assisted living facility forced the evacuation of 157 residents early Sunday morning. The incident happened before 3 a.m., and thankfully, no injuries were reported. But the fallout has left families frustrated and searching for answers.
Residents were relocated to sister facilities, with 73 seniors sent to New Port Richey — a drive of more than 90 minutes from Bradenton. One daughter, Heather Scott, says she learned about the evacuation on social media and later found out her mother was sleeping on a mat on the floor of a dining room at the temporary location. “All of it is very scary at this point,” Scott told local reporters.
The city building administrator and a structural engineer are investigating the cause of the collapse. There is no timeline for when residents can return to the facility.
