Sarasota County Schools kicks off the new year Monday, Aug. 10, and Superintendent Terry Connor is asking families to review the updated bell schedules before the first day. The district is coming off its 23rd consecutive “A” grade, with every managed school rated “A” or “B.” That consistency is a strong start for a year that includes several structural changes across the Suncoast.
The biggest change for parents is the new My Ride K-12 app, which offers real-time bus tracking and route updates directly to your phone. No more guessing games at the bus stop. Start times are also shifting. High schools will begin at 7:30 a.m., elementary and K-8 campuses at 8:30 a.m., and middle schools at 9:30 a.m. Four schools, including Alta Vista, Brentwood, Gulf Gate, and Wilkinson, are now K-8 campuses, meaning fewer transitions for students in those communities.
Athletics are moving digital with GoFan tickets, and new sports like middle school soccer and flag football are being added. Families are urged to visit the district website to confirm schedules and download the app ahead of Monday. With these changes, a little preparation this weekend will go a long way.
