Clayton’s Siesta Grille has been a favorite on Siesta Key for more than two decades, and now it’s writing a new chapter with familiar faces in charge. Randy and Mavis Frey officially took over ownership in May 2024, taking the reins from founders Clayton and Diane Thompson. What makes this transition special is that the Freys aren’t newcomers. Mavis spent nearly nine years working at the restaurant in roles from food runner to management, and she met Randy there along the way.
The new owners have kept everything that made Clayton’s a local institution, the scratch-made food, the upscale but comfortable atmosphere, and the kind of personal service that keeps regulars coming back. One longtime customer recently said the restaurant is “better than ever,” noting the energy and consistency of the food. Randy and Mavis aren’t trying to build a new place; they’re taking care of one they already loved.
If you’re looking for a reliable dinner spot on the Suncoast, Clayton’s Siesta Grille at 1256 Old Stickney Point Road serves dinner daily starting at 4 p.m., with later hours on weekends. Have you been to Clayton’s since the ownership change? What did you think?
