A doctor of natural medicine at a Connecticut wellness center has been arrested on charges of sexually assaulting an underage patient and providing them with methamphetamine during treatment. Jose Mahfoud, who practiced at Sophia Natural Health Center in Brookfield, Connecticut, was taken into custody Thursday on an active warrant, according to police.
The case began when the juvenile patient reported the allegations to a Brookfield police youth officer. The patient said Mahfoud gave them methamphetamine while they received treatment at the center and that the two had a sexual relationship. During the investigation, police accessed the victim’s Telegram account and communicated directly with Mahfoud. Homeland Security Investigations in New Haven assisted with the case. Mahfoud faces charges of second-degree sexual assault and distribution of a controlled substance to a person under 18. The health center says it is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
