Officer Dillon Platte had pulled Christina Latoski over at least four times, always in the same red 1996 Chevy Camaro, always for minor vehicle issues. The stop that mattered came on August 4, 2024, on a dark rural road in Michigan. Platte arrested her on a failure-to-appear warrant, and a search of the car turned up methamphetamine. Latoski didn’t fight it. She told him she was done and asked to be taken to jail.
She spent three months in jail and three months in rehab, closing out a 25-year addiction to meth and alcohol. Then she wrote Platte a letter, crediting his traffic stop with saving her life and keeping her children from losing their mother. A year after her arrest, the two met again at the exact same spot so she could thank him in person. Platte, now with Lansing police after serving in Eaton Rapids, said any officer would want that kind of impact.
