Sarasota police officers Brendan Cook and Krista Gagnon were on patrol early Saturday when a fire broke out at the Cadillac Motel on North Tamiami Trail. Instead of waiting for the flames to be knocked down, the two officers went room to room, knocking on doors and shouting at guests to evacuate. Body camera video shows debris falling around them as one unit burned and the fire pushed into the motel’s attic. One person was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
