Goddard, assigned to the Memphis District, was heading back from training in Nashville when a car came toward him in the wrong direction. Dashcam footage shows him swerving left in the far-left lane, avoiding a head-on collision by what appears to be a matter of inches.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol says the other driver was an elderly man, though his age and identity have not been released. In a statement, the agency said both Goddard and the other driver appear likely to make full recoveries. No additional details on their conditions were provided.
