Rapper Rick Ross, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts, was arrested Thursday in Miami Beach and charged with battery by strangulation. He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County, with bond set at $5,000. The charge is a felony under Florida law.

The arrest follows public accusations from his ex-girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick, who posted claims of physical abuse on Instagram in the days before he was taken into custody. It has not been confirmed whether Kendrick’s posts and Thursday’s arrest are directly connected, and the case remains active.

Ross is a longtime fixture in Florida’s hip-hop scene and a familiar name across the Suncoast, where his music still gets plenty of airtime. For now, the legal process will determine what comes next. Have thoughts on how celebrity cases like this one are handled? Drop them in the comments.
