Sarasota County deputies seized 164 slot machines Tuesday during a coordinated operation at three alleged illegal gambling establishments in Englewood. Search warrants were served simultaneously at locations in the 0 and 100 blocks of North Indiana Avenue by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Gaming Control Commission.
The sheriff’s office Intelligence Unit, TAC Unit, and Special Investigations Section all assisted with the raids. Serving all three warrants at once is a deliberate tactic, designed to prevent suspects from tipping off other locations before officers arrive.
Sheriff Kurt A. Hoffman addressed the operation directly, saying illegal gambling operations have no place in our community and that his focus remains on protecting the safety, quality of life, and well-being of everyone who lives, works, and visits Sarasota County. The investigation is ongoing, and the fate of the seized machines has not yet been announced. For residents in Englewood and across the Suncoast, the raids are a reminder that law enforcement is actively monitoring the community, not just the highways and the beaches.
