A Texas mother is facing two counts of capital murder after authorities say she shot and killed her two sons early Thursday morning in Waxahachie, a community about 30 miles south of Dallas. Ellis County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call around 4:13 a.m. on Big Sky Drive, where they found two male victims with gunshot wounds. Christopher Scott Pitre, 21, was pronounced dead at the scene. His 15-year-old brother was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died. The teenager’s identity is being withheld.

Detectives said corroborating evidence established probable cause that 42-year-old Colleen Nichole Lemmon was responsible for shooting both of her sons. She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries before being booked into the Wayne McCollum Detention Center, and her bond is pending arraignment. Ellis County Sheriff Brad Norman issued a statement saying his deepest sympathies go out to the victims’ father, family members, and loved ones, and that they will remain in the community’s prayers.

The case raises hard questions about family violence and how quickly communities can respond to early-morning emergency calls. For families here on the Suncoast, it’s also a reminder that domestic violence often stays hidden until it’s too late. If you or someone you know needs help, local resources are available.
