Hillsborough County deputies responded to reports of shots fired around 1:49 p.m. Monday in the roadway leading into the Netpark business complex near the 6200 block of East Hillsborough Avenue. According to investigators, a man fired at two people as they ran away, and one victim later arrived at a nearby hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the back. Deputies identified 23-year-old Timothy Carter III as the suspect, took him into custody nearby, and recovered a firearm from a trash can.

Carter was released from prison in May after serving time for carjacking with a firearm. He also had an active Tampa Police warrant from October 8th for robbery with a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm. He now faces charges including attempted second-degree murder while wearing a mask, aggravated battery, discharging a firearm in public while wearing a mask, two counts of felon in possession of a firearm, robbery with a firearm involving less than $750, and tampering with physical evidence.

The case is raising questions across the Tampa Bay area about repeat violent offenders and how quickly someone released from prison on a firearms-related charge can be tied to new gun violence. The investigation remains ongoing, and we’ll continue following developments. What questions do you have about this case or public safety in our region? Let us know in the comments.
