The family of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley has now seen the video of the June shooting that killed him, and today they’ll speak publicly about it. Attorney Ben Crump is set to join the family at a noon ET news conference Thursday, two days after the Mississippi Attorney General’s office ruled that the Senatobia police officers’ actions were justified. The footage includes three body-camera videos and two Walmart surveillance recordings.
According to authorities, two women accused of shoplifting fled the Walmart with the toddler and got into a car. Officer Hunter Foster opened fire on the passenger side as the vehicle moved toward him and later told another officer he could not see a baby inside the car. The family’s legal team also includes attorney Van Turner, and the news conference is expected to address next steps.
The case has drawn national attention through Crump’s involvement, raising questions about police use of force, transparency in releasing shooting footage, and how departments handle vehicles moving toward officers. After the press conference, we want to hear from you: does seeing the same footage the state reviewed change your view of the justified ruling?
