A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent after a mass shooting near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee. At least 11 people were shot and injured, including six minors, with the youngest victim just 11 years old. Police say the minors did not appear to be intended targets, and one victim is believed to be an FAMU student.

The shooting happened hours after FAMU’s homecoming football game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Investigators have not confirmed a direct link to the game, but they believe the violence likely stemmed from a fight between two or three people. Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said it is “incredibly troubling when violence of this magnitude occurs in the very community I grew up in.”

For Suncoast families, the story carries familiar weight. Our fall calendar is full of homecoming games, beach festivals, and crowded weekends, and events like this raise real questions about youth gun violence and safety at large gatherings.
