AI Travel Videos vs. Real Listings: What a New Investigation Found Before You Book Your Next Trip

If your vacation research starts on TikTok, you’re not alone, and you’re not wrong to look. But a new InvestigateTV review found that several AI-labeled travel videos promoting real hotels, resorts and rentals didn’t match the actual properties. Rooms and exteriors were altered, amenities were mixed in from other locations, and at least one advertised rate didn’t hold up: a Blue Ridge Mountains rental promoted at $93 per person per night showed about $865 per night when checked.

The videos carried TikTok labels noting they were AI-generated and that creators earn commission. Expedia said the reviewed accounts weren’t connected to its affiliate program and that the discounts weren’t its offers. TikTok says misleading AI content can bar accounts from earning commissions in the first place.

The takeaway for Suncoast travelers is simple. Book directly with the property when you can, compare the listing against the official site, read reviews and look at review photos, and confirm the dates and total price before you pay. An Atlanta travel agent put it plainly: if it’s too good to be true, it probably is. Where are you planning to travel this season, and how do you verify a rental before booking?
