Fawcett Hospital’s $16 Million ER Expansion: What Port Charlotte Patients Should Know

HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital in Port Charlotte has announced a $16 million expansion and modernization of its emergency department, a project hospital leaders say is needed to keep pace with Charlotte County’s steady growth. The plan adds nine exam rooms for a total of 29, along with six fast track spaces designed to move simpler cases through faster.

Beyond the extra rooms, the project includes a new nursing station and support areas, a dedicated CT scanner inside the department, a larger waiting area and lobby, and a new entrance canopy, plus renovations to existing space. A dedicated CT scanner means imaging happens faster, which can speed up diagnosis when minutes matter. Construction is projected to begin in early 2027, with timeline and completion details to be shared as planning progresses.

For anyone in Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, or the surrounding communities who has spent an anxious hour in an ER waiting room, this is a story worth following. CEO Philip Marchesini called the expansion a milestone for the hospital and the community, and Dr. Scott Howard, medical director of emergency services, noted that demand for timely, accessible emergency care grows along with the community.
