Fake Delivery Vest, Real Theft: What a Lake Oswego Case Teaches Suncoast Shoppers

A Portland man is facing first-degree theft charges after Lake Oswego police say he posed as a delivery driver to swipe packages from at least eight homes. Surveillance footage captured him driving a car with a “delivery driver” sticker and wearing an Amazon vest. The arrest came on Oct. 21, and investigators say more victims may be connected.

The case stands out because the disguise was ordinary. No forced entry, no climbing through a window, just the familiar look of a courier on a driveway. That’s what makes porch piracy so hard to stop: a package on a doorstep is tempting, and a vest or a car decal is easy to buy.

For Suncoast residents, the practical steps are simple. Track your deliveries, haul packages in as soon as they land, and use lockers or a trusted neighbor when you’ll be out. If your security camera catches something, report it, even if it seems minor. Have you ever had a delivery disappear from your porch?
