Sarasota Police are investigating a homicide after a 31-year-old woman was found dead early Saturday morning at the Appleglade Apartments on North Lockwood Ridge Road. Officers responded to a 911 call around 4 a.m. and found the woman dead at the scene. A 32-year-old man is now in custody after being taken in without incident.
Detectives say the victim and suspect knew each other, and they’re calling the incident isolated, meaning neighbors aren’t being warned about a stranger at large. The break in the case came through Flock license plate camera technology, which investigators used to locate a vehicle belonging to the suspect. Those cameras are now common across Florida communities and increasingly central to how quickly cases move.
Police have not released the identities of either person, pending next-of-kin notification. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Sarasota Police or submit an anonymous tip through Sarasota Crime Stoppers. This story is developing and we’ll update it as details are confirmed.
