Two young people are dead and six more are recovering in hospitals after a shooting inside the Hideaway Nightclub in Jackson, Mississippi, late Saturday night. Police identified the deceased as 20-year-old Lovdai Poindexter and 18-year-old Jada Henderson, both pronounced dead at the scene. The six survivors range in age from eighteen to twenty.
According to preliminary findings from the Jackson Police Department, two unidentified men wearing ski masks entered the club before one produced a firearm and fired into the crowd. Deputy Chief Sequerna Banks confirmed the search for the two suspects was ongoing as of Sunday afternoon, with no arrests reported. All of the injured were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
The distance between Jackson and the Suncoast doesn’t dull this story’s relevance. Our communities are full of young adults heading out on weekend nights, and many of us have family members who work or play in busy venues. It’s a reminder to keep awareness habits close and to have honest conversations about safety before a night out, not after. What conversations about safety are you having with your family right now?
