The Morehouse College Glee Club is not just a choir. The 38-member ensemble has performed at presidential inaugurations, Super Bowls, and the Atlanta Olympics, and it recently brought that same tradition to New Olivet Worship Center in Cordova at the invitation of alumnus Pastor Kenneth Whalum Jr. For Whalum, the moment was personal. He credits a childhood Memphis performance with inspiring him to become a Morehouse man.
Members describe the group as an expression of brotherhood and an unselfish labor of love. Director Dr. David Morrow says the Glee Club showcases the college for recruiting, but above all reminds members they are part of a family and something greater than themselves. That message has carried through nearly 158 years of Morehouse history and continues to resonate far beyond the concert hall.
For our Suncoast community, where music, mentorship, and tradition run deep, this story is a reminder that the arts do more than entertain. They shape leaders. Have you ever been part of a choir or ensemble that changed your direction in life? We would love to hear your story.
