A Thursday evening arrest near the White House has authorities sounding alarms about a heightened threat environment. Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos was taken into custody after officers spotted him behaving suspiciously in a parked car, which was later determined to have been reported stolen. Inside, officers found three guns and dozens of rounds of ammunition.
According to law enforcement, Chrinos told them that voices in his head were telling him to kill President Donald Trump. He now faces multiple firearms, theft and stolen property charges, and an immigration detainer. Chrinos, a Venezuelan national, entered the U.S. illegally in 2024 and was previously arrested by Border Patrol and released.
Secret Service Director Sean Curran said the incident reflects the heightened threat environment his agency operates in, adding that he is alarmed by the rise in threat cases directed at the White House complex. Here on the Suncoast, this story raises questions that stretch far beyond Washington: about mental health, immigration enforcement, and public safety. What questions do you have about how cases like this are handled?
