WELL IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN. IT ACTUALLY HAPPENS TWICE A YEAR. THEY DON’T STING OR BITE, BUT THEY ARE A NUISANCE. I’M TALKING ABOUT LOVEBUGS, AND THEY ARE BACK. THE LITTLE BLACK BUGS HAVE INVADED THE SOUTHWEST PLEX IN THE PAST WEEK, WREAKING HAVOC ON WINDSHIELD AND VEHICLE GRILLS. CAR WASHES LOVE THIS TIME OF YEAR. THEY’LL SEE THE SAME VEHICLES COME IN SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK TO REMOVE THOSE BLACK PESTS. THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA EXTENSION SERVICES SAYS LOVEBUGS REACH THEIR PEAK OF ANNOYANCE AROUND 10AM AND THEY HANG AROUND UNTIL DUSK DAILY, USUALLY FOR TWO TO THREE WEEKS. FEMALE LOVEBUGS LAY FROM ONE HUNDRED TO THREE HUNDRED FIFTY EGGS EACH, AND WE’LL SEE THOSE BUGS IN LATE AUGUST OR EARLY SEPTEMBER.
