THE STATE ATTORNEY’S OFFICE NOW HAS THE CASE OF A WOMAN WHO WAS RUN DOWN AND KILLED LAST MONTH DURING A DISPUTE SOUTH OF PUNTA GORDA. THE CHARLOTTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HAS FORWARDED THE CASE FILES IN THE DEATH OF 71 YEAR OLD PHYLLIS GIPE, WHO DIED JULY 29TH AFTER A PICKUP TRUCK STRUCK HER WHILE SHE WAS ON A GOLF CART NEAR SOUTH JONES LOOP ROAD AND QUINCE STREET. DETECTIVES HAVE SAID AN APPARENT FEUD BETWEEN RESIDENTS ON RUMFORD STREET MAY HAVE LED TO THE FATAL ACCIDENT. THE INVESTIGATION IS STILL ACTIVE AND PROSECUTORS HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH AUTHORITIES ON THE CASE FROM THE BEGINNING. THE DRIVER OF THE PICKUP, 35 YEAR OLD ROY LEE POORE OF PUNTA GORDA WAS CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH INTENT TO COMMIT A FELONY IN CONNECTION WITH A RELATED DISTURBANCE WITH GIPE’S 44 YEAR OLD SON. HE WAS RELEASED AFTER POSTING A $15,000 BOND.
