About 37,000 squishy toys sold nationwide are under recall because the water beads inside them expand beyond the mandatory toy safety standard, creating a serious hazard for young children. The two products affected are squishy dumpling toys, model 3655, sold in tan steamer-shaped containers, and crazy squib ball toys, model 3984, wrapped in white netting. Both come in translucent colors with glitter and water beads, and both sold between April and June 2026 for 41 cents to $1.25 at ABC Trading stores.
The danger is straightforward and severe. When a water bead is swallowed, it continues to grow inside the body, which can lead to choking, intestinal obstruction, vomiting, dehydration, and even death. Because these toys were so inexpensive, they moved quickly into goody bags, prize bins, and toy chests across the Suncoast, often without a parent or grandparent ever seeing a receipt.
If you find either model at home, stop using it immediately and contact ABC Trading for a full refund. It’s also worth a quick text to the other families in your circle, since word of mouth moves faster than a recall notice. Have you come across one of these squishy toys in your house?
