Amazon Prime Refunds Just Got Bigger: Up to $200 Coming Automatically to Millions More Subscribers

Amazon Prime subscribers across the Suncoast and the country could be getting more money back than originally expected. Under an expanded federal court order tied to the FTC’s $2.5 billion settlement, refund eligibility now includes millions of subscribers who used 11 to 20 Prime benefits in a one-year period. Individual payments could rise from around $51 to as much as $200.

The rollout starts October 1, 2026. Payments go out automatically through PayPal, Venmo, or a mailed check, and no claim forms are required. Subscribers who already received a payment from the first round may get a supplemental check of up to $149 by April 2027. The settlement stemmed from FTC allegations that Amazon used deceptive practices to enroll customers in Prime and made cancellation unnecessarily difficult.

One important note for our Gulf Coast community, where retirees and snowbirds are frequent targets: the FTC is warning that scammers are impersonating the agency to trick people into sharing bank information or paying fake “processing fees.” The FTC will never call, text, or charge you to release a refund. If you get one of those messages, don’t respond.
