Venice football has a new name at the top of its record book. Head coach John Peacock earned career win No. 199 last week as the Indians shut out Lehigh 69-0, passing Jim Powell’s 198 for the most victories in program history. Peacock tied Powell the week before with a double-overtime win over Lakeland, and the Indians now sit at 4-0 on the season.
Peacock’s run in Venice spans more than two decades. He’s been part of all four state championships the program has won since 2000, serving as head coach for three of them. When asked about the milestone, he pointed to his staff and said it’s an honor to be mentioned in the same breath as Powell.
The next chapter comes Friday night, when Venice hosts Cape Coral at Powell Davis Stadium at 7:30 p.m. A win would give Peacock career victory No. 200 in front of the home crowd. Are you planning to be there to see it? Let us know in the comments.
