Cincinnati authorities have charged 34-year-old Christopher Evans with murder, felonious assault, and endangering children in the death of his 24-day-old daughter, Naomi. The infant was pronounced dead Sunday at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and the charges were announced Thursday. Evans is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning at 9 a.m.
What has drawn additional scrutiny is a GoFundMe page created Monday under the name Chris Evans, seeking $3,500 for Naomi’s funeral. As of this report, the page had raised $2,625. The page identifies its creator as Naomi’s father and references his wife Grace. However, authorities have not confirmed that the person who organized the fundraiser is the same Christopher Evans now facing charges. Donors who gave money based on the page have no independent verification of that connection.
The case also carries difficult history. Court records show Evans was convicted in 2017 of abusing his then-3-week-old son, an investigation that revealed subdural bleeding, a brain injury, retinal hemorrhages, and leg fractures. He was sentenced to three years in prison and later served supervised probation that ended in June 2024. Now, a little more than a year later, he faces charges in another infant’s death.
