Federal authorities have arrested a high-ranking Manatee County Emergency Services official following an investigation into child sexual abuse material. Zachary Molnar, 46, who served as deputy chief of operations and EMS shift commander, was identified by the FBI when agents investigating a separate suspect in another jurisdiction discovered evidence linking Molnar to child exploitation material. According to law enforcement, the FBI located footage of Molnar committing sexual acts with a child. Following notification to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant was executed at Molnar’s home, where evidence confirmed his involvement. Interviews with the victim revealed that the abuse had been ongoing for several years. Molnar is now in custody at Manatee County Jail.
This arrest raises significant questions about institutional oversight and safeguarding within emergency services. Those in leadership positions, particularly in agencies responsible for public safety, are held to the highest standards of accountability. The rapid coordination between the FBI and Manatee County law enforcement demonstrates the effectiveness of multi-jurisdictional investigations in identifying and stopping exploitation. For the Suncoast community, this development underscores the importance of robust vetting procedures and oversight mechanisms at all levels of local government.
The focus now must be on supporting the victim and ensuring they receive proper care and resources. If you have information about other potential victims or related crimes, law enforcement urges you to come forward. Have you or someone you know been affected by this situation?
