Manatee County commissioners pulled off a government success story this week. Governor Ron DeSantis approved $12.4 million in state budget funding for all five of the county’s major legislative priorities for 2026. That’s 100 percent of what they asked for, which rarely happens in state budget negotiations. The funding represents months of coordinated effort between the Manatee County Board of Commissioners, the Government Relations Department, and our local legislative delegation.
The $12.4 million is distributed across three critical areas: transportation, veterans services, and homelessness response. The 51st Street West Extension in Bradenton gets $3 million to improve traffic flow and connectivity as the region grows. The Fort Hamer Road/I-75 Interchange Design receives $5 million to enhance transportation infrastructure and emergency evacuation routes, which is especially important during hurricane season on the Suncoast. Valor Commons, a new veterans resource hub and memorial park, gets $1.6 million to serve local veterans and their families with comprehensive support services. Fresh Start Manatee Phase 2 is allocated $1.3 million to renovate a facility providing emergency shelter and wraparound services for individuals experiencing homelessness. The Singletary Road Bridge replacement rounds out the projects with $1.5 million in funding.
