The August 18th primary election is creeping up on Sarasota County, and if you’re planning to vote by mail, the clock is officially ticking. Ron Turner, the county’s Supervisor of Elections, is urging all voters who plan to mail in their ballots to do so as soon as possible. The critical deadline is Tuesday, August 11th. After that date, there’s no guarantee your ballot will arrive in time to be counted by the 7 p.m. Election Day deadline. It’s not worth the risk, especially when the mail can be unpredictable during Florida’s summer months.
The process is straightforward: you need one Forever stamp or 82 cents in postage, and you’ll want to use standard USPS mail. Drop it in a mailbox and you’re done. But if mailing feels risky, the county has given us plenty of alternatives. Starting August 8th, six early voting locations will be open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through August 16th. You can also use secure ballot drop-off stations at any Sarasota County elections office, available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day itself if you’re down to the wire.
One feature that’s really helpful: voters can now track their ballots online and receive status notifications. Head over to SarasotaVotes.gov/Instructions to set that up.
