A new GoodRx survey confirms what plenty of Suncoast households already feel: having insurance doesn’t guarantee you’re covered. More than a quarter of insured respondents reported at least one gap in coverage, and nearly half pointed to prescription drug coverage as the biggest shortfall. More than a third said dental care isn’t fully covered either.
Divya Iyer, a senior vice president at GoodRx, says insurance is covering less each year, with high co-pays and prior authorizations doing much of the damage. The ripple effects matter here in a community with so many retirees and snowbirds managing multiple prescriptions: when coverage falls short, people delay care or skip medications entirely, turning a budget problem into a health problem.
The good news is there are practical steps. Compare prescription prices online before you fill, and consider subscription services like GoodRx Companion, which Iyer describes as a complement to your existing insurance, not a replacement. For families juggling several prescriptions, even small savings add up. What’s the biggest coverage gap you’ve run into with your plan? Let us know on our social pages.
