Sincere D’Andre Venson was seventeen years old when he was shot multiple times at a Phoenix community park just after midnight on Tuesday. What happened next is the reason two suspects are behind bars. Before he died, Venson told first responders that Joshua Armstrong shot him. He described the black BMW involved and handed over his phone so investigators could confirm Armstrong’s number. That statement, known in legal terms as a dying declaration, became the backbone of the case.
Detectives built the rest of the investigation around physical evidence. They recovered shell casings from the park using a metal detector and matched a phone to Armstrong’s number. Surveillance video showed the group walking toward the park before shots were fired, and two witnesses placed the suspects at the scene. Armstrong and Luis Gonzalez, both eighteen, now face first-degree murder and armed robbery charges and are each being held on $1 million bond. Gonzalez told police that Armstrong demanded Venson’s gun before opening fire, then ordered Gonzalez to grab the weapon as Venson lay on the ground.
A third man, Evan Cisneros, reportedly ended up with the murder weapon, and it remains unclear what charges, if any, he will face.
