Tony Stark’s ‘Avengers’ Acura NSX Is Up for Auction at $98,000, but It Can’t Legally Touch a Road

The custom Acura NSX roadster that closes out the 2012 film “The Avengers” is on the auction block on Cars & Bids, and bidding had reached $98,000 as of Sunday with 15 bidders participating. The car was custom-built for Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Tony Stark, featuring Iron Man-matched paint, a screen-used “STARK 33” license plate, and 18-inch front wheels paired with 20-inch rears. The auction ends Friday at 5 p.m.

There is one significant catch buried in the listing. The car is described as a one-off concept that cannot be registered, titled, or driven on public roads. That makes it a display piece rather than a weekend driver, which puts the winning bid in a very different category than a typical collector car. You are paying for provenance and screen time, not horsepower you can enjoy on Gulf Boulevard.

Movie prop auctions have become their own corner of the collector market, and recognizable on-screen vehicles tend to draw serious attention. Whether that attention translates into a six-figure final price for something that can only sit in a garage is the question the next few days will answer. Would you spend that kind of money on a car you can never actually drive? Let us know.
