The University of Arizona has placed the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity on activities suspension while it investigates hazing allegations that read like something out of a bad movie. According to a letter sent to the chapter’s president, new members were allegedly forced to drink large amounts of alcohol and swallow live goldfish. The letter also describes screaming, degradation and threats directed at pledges by active members.
The fraternity is required to meet with university officials to address the allegations. It’s not the only chapter on that campus in hot water either. Another University of Arizona fraternity is currently on probation through May 2027 following separate hazing accusations, which suggests this may be a broader cultural problem rather than one bad chapter.
