ELDERLY NOKOMIS WOMAN DIES IN ACCIDENT

ONE PERSON WAS KILLED AND THREE OTHERS INJURED IN AN ACCIDENT ON AN INTERSTATE ON-RAMP IN VENICE.  THE FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL SAYS 78 YEAR OLD CHARLES COOK OF NOKOMIS WAS NORTHBOUND ON THE JACARANDA BOULEVARD ON-RAMP AT AROUND 12:30PM SUNDAY WHEN HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS LINCOLN FOUR DOOR AND SPUN OUT INTO THE PATH OF A FORD PICKUP ON THE INTERSTATE THAT WAS DRIVEN BY 57 YEAR OLD MICHAEL MAHONEY OF ODESSA.  A PASSANGER IN COOK’S CAR, 79 YEAR OLD LEONA COOK, WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE, WHILE CHARLES WAS TAKEN TO VENICE REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER WITH MINOR INJURIES.  MAHONEY AND A PASSANGER IN HIS TRUCK, 39 YEAR OLD ALESSANDRO SOUSA OF TAMPA, REFUSED TREATMENT OF MINOR INJURIES.  TROOPERS SAY ALCOHOL WAS NOT A FACTOR IN THE ACCIDENT AND CHARGES ARE PENDING THE COMPLETION OF THEIR INVESTIGATION.
