TWO FAMILIAR NAMES HAVE ALREADY SURFACED AS THE CITY OF VENICE HAS LAUNCHED A SEARCH FOR THEIR NEW POLICE CHIEF.  ACCORDING TO THE HERALD TRIBUNE, NORTH PORT INTERIM CITY MANAGER AND POLICE CHIEF TERRY LEWIS, WHO MOVED TO VENICE BACK IN APRIL, HAS THROWN HIS HAT INTO THE RING, AS HAS DAVID GUSTAFSON, WHO RAN UNSUCCESSFULLY FOR SARASOTA COUNTY SHERIFF IN 2008.  THE REPORT SAYS THE CITY HAS RECEIVED FOUR RESUMES ALREADY, BUT WOULD NOT RELEASE THE NAMES OF THE OTHER TWO CANDIDATES.  THE VENICE CITY COUNCIL DECIDED THIS WEEK NOT TO HIRE A CONSULTANT TO FIND A REPLACEMENT FOR JULIE WILLIAMS, WHO WAS FORCED TO RESIGN IN OCTOBER AMIDST AN INVESTIGATION OF INSUBORDINATION.  CAPTAIN DAVID DUNAWAY IS THE INTERIM POLICE CHIEF, BUT HE PLANS TO RETIRE NEXT YEAR.
