FIRE DESTROYS SHED, DAMAGES TRUCK

SHARE NOW

A FIRE BROKE OUT ON A PROPERTY IN ENGLEWOOD TUESDAY NIGHT, DOING DAMAGE TO A TRUCK AND DESTROYING A SHED.  THE ENGLEWOOD FIRE CONTROL DISTRICT SAID THE FIRE BROKE OUT JUST AFTER 6PM AT 2175 BRIDGE STREET.  CREWS RESPONDING COULD SEE A COLUMN OF SMOKE, AND WHEN THEY ARRIVED THEY FOUND THE FIRE IN A DENSELY OVERGROWN AREA WITH IT MOVING QUICKLY TOWARDS A MEDIUM SIZED SHED ON THE PROPERTY.  SINCE THE SHED WAS VERY CLOSE TO A SINGLE FAMILY HOME, A SECOND ALARM WAS SOUNDED.  SARASOTA COUNTY AND THE DIVISION OF FORESTRY WERE CALLED IN TO ASSIST AS THE FIRE SPREAD QUICKLY TOWARDS KEYWAY ROAD, AND A SARASOTA SHERIFF’S HELICOPTER PROVIDED WATER DROPS.  IT TOOK FIREFIGHTERS OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF TO BRING THE FIRE UNDER CONTROL, BUT NOT BEFORE IT CONSUMED MORE THAN EIGHT ACRES.  BECAUSE OF THE VERY DRY CONDITIONS, A BRUSH TRUCK REMAINED ON SCENE WEDNESDAY TO DEAL WITH ANY POSSIBLE FLARE-UPS.
