THE VENICE CITY COUNCIL ON TUESDAY VOTED TO POSTPONE DISCUSSING CITY MANAGER ISSAC TURNER’S PERFORMANCE UNTIL THEIR NEXT MEETING ON FEBRUARY 8TH.  IN ADDITION, CITY MAYOR JOHN HOLIC PUBLICLY SCOLDED COUNCIL MEMBER BOB DANIELS FOR TRYING TO PRIVATELY BROKER TURNER’S RESIGNATION, SAYING “NONE OF US ARE FREE TO MAKE OFFERS OF PUBLIC FUNDS WITHOUT DUE PROCESS OF THE COUNCIL AS A WHOLE.”  DANIELS APOLOGIZED FOR ATTEMPTING TO CIRCUMVENT THE COUNCIL, SAYING HE WAS NOT ALLOWED TO CONTACT THEM ABOUT FIRING TURNER BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE VIOLATED SUNSHINE LAWS.  TURNER HAS COME UNDER FIRE BY SOME COUNCIL MEMBERS FOR BEING SLOW TO REACT TO PROBLEMS IN THE CITY’S POLICE DEPARTMENT WHICH LED TO THE RESIGNATION OF POLICE CHIEF JULIE WILLIAMS.  THE COUNCIL APPEARS TO BE SPLIT ON TURNER’S HANDLING OF THE WILLIAMS SITUATION, MAKING THE NEXT MEETING ON THE 8TH A MUST-SEE EVENT.
