A routine drug investigation in Manatee County escalated into a dangerous high-speed chase yesterday afternoon when a suspect refused to cooperate with detectives. Joshua Yarn, who was under investigation for fentanyl trafficking, fled when law enforcement attempted to take him into custody. What followed was a chaotic series of events that put innocent shoppers and pedestrians at serious risk.
During the chase near First Street East, Yarn struck multiple undercover sheriff’s vehicles and drove recklessly onto a sidewalk in front of a shopping plaza. A woman was nearly hit by his gray Toyota RAV4 and had to jump into bushes to avoid serious injury. The situation became so dangerous that a third undercover vehicle was forced to intervene, resulting in a collision that sent Yarn’s RAV4 crashing through the front entrance of Hounds Town. Yarn was arrested on scene without further resistance and now faces multiple felony charges including drug possession with intent to sell, fleeing and elucing, aggravated assault, and possession of cocaine, oxycodone, marijuana, and methadone.
This incident highlights the ongoing fentanyl crisis affecting Florida communities and the real dangers law enforcement faces during narcotics investigations.
