Manatee County’s Community Clothing Swap is back for a third round, and the rules are about as simple as they get. Show up at 1303 17th Street West in Palmetto on October 16th or 17th between 9 a.m. and noon, and take home as much clothing as you want. Admission is free. No catch.
The event is hosted by the county’s Agriculture and Extension Service, and water conservation program assistants Emma Bouchard and Kimberly Smith point out that reusing clothing keeps it out of landfills while cutting the water required to produce new garments. Organizers accept clean, gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, and Halloween costumes are welcome too. Donations can be dropped off at the office beforehand or brought the day of the event. Any clothing left over goes to charitable organizations.
Word is spreading fast. The first swap drew about 40 people, and the second brought in roughly 100. With closets to clear and fall festivities on the calendar, this one could be the biggest yet. Questions? Call 941-722-4524.
Are you planning to bring a bag of donations, or just shop the swap?
