A routine X-ray scan at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport turned up something straight out of a comic book this week: a set of three-bladed, claw-like weapons stashed in a carry-on bag. Officer Douglas Linn spotted the distinct claw features on the monitor, and property search officer Dennis Oishi confirmed the find during a bag search. The item drew comparisons to a mashup of Wolverine claws and Freddy Krueger blades.
The passenger had forgotten the claws were packed and voluntarily abandoned them at the checkpoint once they were pulled out. A supervisory TSA officer said that in seven years with the agency, it ranked among the most unusual items they had encountered. No charges, no drama, just a memorable day for everyone at the lane.
For Suncoast travelers, the timing is a useful nudge. With snowbird season underway and flights filling up out of Sarasota-Bradenton and Tampa, a minute spent emptying out the bag beats a surprise at the security line. Props, pointy souvenirs, oversized liquids, all of it is worth a quick look. So what’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever found in your own bag before a flight?
