The Arcadia Youth Rodeo Association opened its 2026-27 season Saturday with 210 competitors and 477 entries on opening day, a strong start for an organization that bills itself as Florida’s largest youth rodeo association. Events included bull riding, barrel racing, mutton bustin’ and roping, with riders as young as nine sharing the same grounds as teenagers chasing college scholarships.
Participation is climbing again after dipping to around 180 competitors in recent seasons. AYRA president Levi Pearce said crossing the 200 mark is a big deal for a youth rodeo, and it reinforces the group’s standing since its founding in 2008. Beyond the buckles, Pearce points to friendships that last a lifetime and a tradition that stretches back through generations of Florida cattle families.
That tradition is also a pipeline. Former AYRA riders have reached the National Finals Rodeo and earned college rodeo scholarships, meaning the kids competing in Arcadia today are following a proven path.
