Lights at Spooky Point is back at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens’ Historic Spanish Point campus in Osprey, opening October 1 and running nightly through October 31. It’s the fifth year for the event, which transforms the wooded pathways into a glowing Halloween landscape with hundreds of thousands of lights, pumpkin displays, and themed vignettes around every turn.
Returning favorites include Pumpkin Alley and Ozzy the Octopus, the giant illuminated octopus near the water. New this year are Kathy the skeleton tour guide, a surfing skeleton, and a vampire crab. Ticket times are 6:30 p.m. for families with younger children and 7:45 p.m. for a darker experience, and there’s a designated “super spooky” area that comes with a warning for parents of young kids.
Jennifer Rominiecki, president and CEO of Selby Gardens, says the Historic Spanish Point campus “is transformed into a Halloween wonderland,” describing the event as “the right balance between spooky and fun, and so good for all ages.” Organizers also hope the Halloween crowds discover everything else the property offers, from its pioneer history and cemetery to botanical rarities like ghost orchids.
