The Milwaukee Brewers are one win away from the first World Series championship in franchise history after a 10-1 dismantling of the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field Monday night. Milwaukee leads the series 3-0 and has won eight straight postseason games. The defining moment came in the fifth inning, when the Brewers scored eight runs, all with two outs, setting a World Series record. Jackson Chourio finished with four hits, and Brice Turang’s two-run single blew the game open.
Rookie left-hander Robert Gasser stole the show on the mound, facing the minimum 18 batters through six innings while a loud contingent of traveling Milwaukee fans filled the Trop. “Normally it’s 35,000 against nine, but tonight we had 20,000 people behind us,” Gasser said afterward. Tampa Bay’s Freddy Peralta, facing his former team, allowed five runs and seven hits.
History is not on Tampa Bay’s side. Only the 2004 Red Sox have ever erased a 3-0 deficit in a best-of-seven postseason series. Rays manager Kevin Cash kept a sense of humor about it, saying his club has “that chip and a chair mentality.” Game 4 is Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. If you’re heading to the game or watching from the Suncoast, what’s your prediction for tonight?
