Cyclists from Sarasota and Manatee counties will unite on May 20, 2026, for the 24th Annual Ride of Silence. This poignant event promises a somber tribute to cyclists who have lost their lives or been injured while riding, while also highlighting the urgent need for safer roads. Unlike your typical cycling event, participants ride at a slow pace of no more than 12 mph, donning helmets and observing all traffic laws—because safety is the name of the game.

The emotional weight of this year’s ride is particularly severe, with troubling statistics revealing that seven cyclists lost their lives in the area during 2025. Sadly, five more fatalities have already been reported in 2026. As riders pedal through the streets of Sarasota, community leaders, drivers, and law enforcement are reminded that cyclists are vulnerable road users. This isn’t just a bike ride; it’s a wake-up call to everyone on the road.

Participants are encouraged to wear helmets and bring lights and reflective gear, ensuring they’re as visible as possible. After the ride, there’s a chance for camaraderie and reflection at Origin Craft Beer & Pizza Cafe. Now that’s a way to mix advocacy with a well-deserved slice of pizza! With years of bicycle safety issues lingering, events like this serve as a crucial reminder of the work still needed to create safe spaces for all road users. So, get ready to roll—it looks like it’s going to be an important ride!
