A Chatham County, Georgia homeowner woke up to a strange discovery on their surveillance footage: an unidentified man had let himself into the backyard, gone swimming, and used the hot tub between 2:15 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 1. Police say the video also shows him spending more than ten minutes, in their words, “intensely interacting” with a rubber duck.
Before leaving on a bicycle, the man took beach towels valued at $1,200. The Chatham County Police Department isn’t pretending this is the crime of the century. An official described it as not the biggest crime of the month, but one with a lot of ick-factor, and said they’d like to find him before he does it to someone else.
For homeowners, the takeaway is familiar whether you’re in Chatham County or here on the Suncoast: your cameras keep working while you sleep, and small details like a bicycle, a timestamp, or an odd habit can help close a case. Anonymous tips can be submitted through the Chatham County PD app, its online tip form, or Crime Stoppers at 912-234-2020.
