A South Carolina community is in mourning after 24-year-old Baylee Johnson died following a tragic go-kart accident. On August 23, Johnson was at a track in Sumter when her hair became caught in the go-kart’s sprocket, according to the Sumter County Coroner. She was 15 weeks pregnant with a baby boy the family planned to name Johnny. Johnson passed away on August 31 due to complications from her injuries, leaving her family, friends, and coworkers devastated.
Johnson had recently accepted a position at Prisma Health OB/GYN–Sumter, a job she was excited to start. Her family shared heartfelt memories of a woman who was “silly, spontaneous and completely carefree,” adding that “she did not simply walk into a room; she brought life into it.” The family has also received an outpouring of support from the community, including a personal message from country music star Riley Green. A visitation is scheduled for Friday, followed by a celebration of life on Saturday.
