Bend Police responded Thursday to reports of a shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. According to early reports, at least two people were taken to the hospital, and the suspected shooter is dead. A large police presence remains around the campus, and officials are asking the public to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
For families connected to the school, the reunification location is Journey Church, near the Goodwill and Dairy Queen. Parents and guardians are being directed there to be reunited with students. Anyone near the school who does not need to be there is asked to stay clear so emergency crews can work.
Details remain limited at this stage. No motive, no names of those injured, and no timeline have been released. This is a developing situation, and confirmed information will come from law enforcement rather than social media. For Suncoast families watching from across the country, this brings up the same questions we ask after every one of these incidents: does your child’s school have a clear emergency plan, and do you know what you would do?
What’s one thing you want to confirm with your child’s school this week?
