Shooting at Bend, Oregon Elementary School Sends Two to Hospital; Suspect Dead

Two people were hospitalized Thursday afternoon after a shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. Children were among the injured, according to police, though officials have not said whether those children were hospitalized or released condition updates. The suspected shooter is dead, and it remains unclear whether a police officer or a bystander fired the fatal shot.

The timeline moved fast. The first call came in around one o’clock, reporting a gunshot fired into a car. Within minutes, more calls flooded in about an active shooter at the school. Families are being directed to reunite at Journey Church, near the Goodwill and the Dairy Queen, while police ask the public to avoid the area entirely so responders can work.

For parents here on the Suncoast, this kind of story lands hard, even from three thousand miles away. It’s the same drop-off line, the same morning routine, the same trust that the school day will end the way it started. We’ll continue following the reunification effort and any updates on the injured.
